Job Summary:  Sea Kayak Staff are responsible for managing, supervising, teaching, and facilitating a group of campers with Asperger’s, High-functioning Autism, and/or ADHD during sea kayaking programs.

Responsibilities:

  •   Manage, supervise, and facilitate an assigned camp group of up to 10 campers with 2 other staff
  •   Support & assist campers through daily routine during 7-day, overnight expeditions
  •   Teach campers daily living skills while camping (i.e. setting up tarps, setting up camp, cooking)
  •   Teach technical sea kayaking and kayak camping skills
  • Participates in required staff training
  • Fully participates in trip planning, including development of educational and technical curricula, route planning, food and equipment organization/packing
  • Assists other staff in the delivery of Blue Compass mission, framework and required components
  • May be required to manage a student group and all emergencies in absence of other staff
  • Is able to locate and use communication systems in the event of an emergency
  • Adheres to all local operating procedures, safety policies and emergency procedures 
  • Is able to provide clear, effective and timely communication with the other staff
  • Consistently strives to give and receive feedback with co-workers and supervisor
  • Demonstrates the ability to behave as a role model for campers
