BCUNA Transition Information
What is currently known as BCUNA is in the process of incorporating in New York State as a not-for-profit Type B corporation under section 201 of the New York State Not-For-Profit Corporation Law. Requirements for incorporation include providing a mission statement that:
With the assistance of the New York Council of Nonprofits, Inc. (www.nycon.org), we have drafted the following mission statement which has been submitted with other paperwork for incorporation. We are currently awaiting a response from New York State Department of State for either acceptance or feedback on changes that need to be made.
New Midwest RCO
Alec Bloyd-Peshkin is taking on the position of Midwest RCO. He hopes to support and grow the existing interest in the region for BCU programming by sharing the most current information about BCUNA offerings and facilitating additional trainings and assessments in the region. He brings to this position his enthusiasm for all paddlesports, long-term paddler development and the creation of community among paddlers and coaches.
Alec's BCU credentials include 4* leadership training sea, UKCC 2*, and UKCC Coach 1, and he will be participating in a UKCC Coach 2 training this May. He currently coaches for Geneva Kayak Center in Chicago and the Chicago Whitewater Association and has been a guest coach at Adventure Crafters in Maryland and Body Boat Blade on Orcas Island, Washington. He also coaches at symposia throughout the Great Lakes.

Checks to Sea Kayaking International
All checks must be payable to "Sea Kayaking International." Our back will not accept checks made out to BCUNA.
Leadership First Aid Prerequisite
Candidates must hold a two day first aid/cpr certification for 4 Star Leader or 5 Star Leader. Check the literature page for aceptable first aid/CPR organizations.
4 Star Training Prerequisite
Candidates must hold the 3 Star Sea (or old 4 Star Sea) award in order for an official 4 Star Sea Training program. It's the responsibility of the Course Provider to check on each student before they sign up for a 4 Star Sea Training program. Candidates only need to have 3 Star skills for the other disciplines.
